CAPE
TOWN AND ENVIRONS Cape
Town has not been called the "fairest Cape in the circumference of
the earth" without reason. It is indeed the Cape of Good Hope and
the meeting place of two majestic oceans, the Indian and the vast Atlantic,
making what could become the seaside and sea kayaking capital of the world!
Now you can explore both sides of the Cape Peninsula in our safe, comfortable
sit-on-top kayaks which require almost no balance or skill! It is the
ideal craft for both the explorer who wishes to challenge the Point, and
the casual who simply wishes to all but float out in a calm bay and see
the mountain from another perspective [if you really insist we will do
the paddling for you on our new fun tandem PaddleYak]. You can even sit
and paint or sketch in your kayak, or conduct a corporate meeting if you
wish!
Cape Town has a prolific sea life and an endless coastline. In season the Southern Right and Humpback whales migrate round the Cape and Cape fur seals and African penguins are plentiful. Add to this the delicious Cape lobster, Perlemoen abalone , crystal clear water and endless bays and you have a seaside route fit for all sea lovers and sea kayakers.

LANGEBAAN
& WEST COAST Approximately
hundred kilometres from Cape Town lies Saldanha Bay and the Langebaan
lagoon. Not only a traditional fishing port, it includes the West Coast
National Park, a sanctuary for coastal birds. Langebaan is a resort town
on the edge of the lagoon and is our base for kayaking in the area. Nearby
is traditional Churchaven, Postberg and Kraal Bay, still inhabited by
fisherfolk from another era. Further north lies the true West Coast, simple
and barren yet appealing with its space and timelessness. In early spring
it is transformed into a wonderland of flowers. Launch from any of the
little inlets in the area and enjoy the many contrasts. Famous for its
sea food and open style eateries, there are many surprises waiting for
you in this austere but unspoilt stretch of coast.

GARDEN
ROUTE & PLETTENBERG BAY Possibly
one of the world's prime nature areas, with two hundred kilometres of
indigenous forest, a relatively unspoilt coast and a network of lakes,
estuaries and lagoons and superb, unexplored kayaking territory. Home
of the exquisitely beautiful, but elusive Knysna loerie, a few elephant
and a stretch of coast par excellence! Stretching beyond Mossel Bay, it
may well be called Eden.

NAMIBIA
DESERT ROUTE This
young African state offers a land of contrasts, with the cold Atlantic
bordering the ancient Namib desert and the Skeleton Coast, with some of
the world's most impressive dunes, and the Okavango swamps and Etosha
on its boundaries offering refuge to some of Africa's vast wildlife. For
the first time you can now experience this land from the improbable vantage
point of a sea kayak. Paddle on protected estuaries and have a close-up
view of thousands of flamingos which frequent this area, or paddle in
safe bays and enjoy the prolific sea life and views of the desert. Go
on desert drives in the afternoons and enjoy the continental feel of Swakopmund,
a German outpost of yore. Arrange a trip to the remote Kaokaveld and see
forever.

MAURITIUS
This
Indian Ocean Island is an independent country with a rich history and
a diversity of exotic cultures, lying nearly midway between the continents
of Africa and Australasia. It offers a 160 kilometres-long shoreline,
almost entirely protected by a coral reef. The tropical conditions make
paddling a delight and the only way to see the real island and the real
people is from a kayak. Mauritius has a good infrastructure with excellent
hotels and restaurants offering traditional cuisine. Best of all, it has
no malaria, a rarity in a tropical setting!
