PaddkeYak Fusion Hybrid This is the new, expedition-version of the award-winning PY Swift Hybrid and the PY Fusion Classic which adventurer Riaan Manser used in his successful circumnavigation of Madagascar in 2008-2009, despite essentially being a novice paddler without a long track reord of participation in the sport. The PY Fusion features all the qualities of the PY Swift, but has been specifically designed for expeditions with its longer waterline, narrower beam and marginally greater volume, with various hatch options to suit specific applications. Not recommended for daily tripping, this is the real thing for extended sea kayak tours and xpeditions. The basic boat comes with adjustable rudder, cockpit coaming and one screw hatch only. To the hull can be added a choice of hatches and a variety of fittings. The craft can also be built to specific weight requirements and material specifications to suit the application. If you are preparing for that once-in-a-lifetime kayak adventure, give this boat a look. It should be your first and final choice of craft. Soon it will also be available in three nested sections for compact portaging on planes, trains, ships, ferries, yachts and taxis. The fold-up version, the PY TravelYak, will come in an optional carry bag at approximatgely double the cost of the standard craft. PaddleYak Swift Hybrid The PaddleYak Swift Hybrid is PaddleYak's flagship and winner of a SABS Disa Design Excellence Award for 2007 as well as a prestigious ITown Design Award. This is a professionally developed craft and a trendsetter because it features both sit-on-top as well as traditional sit-in features. The Swift has a sit-on seat with effective self-draining scuppers, but the seat also has a protective coaming, which takes an optional and sturdy neoprene sprayskirt. This makes it an ideal craft for both sit-on as well as sit-in conditions. The combination of qualities means that the craft has low freeboard and a low-slung stern, making for easy-as-pie, re-entry, a definite safety advantage over more traditional designs. The craft features a fine bow for fast touring, yet is also very stable as a result of its design.It comes standard with two medium-sized hatches, adjustable footrests and a robust new pin-mounted,flip-up rudder from PaddleYak. It also offers cockpit indents for water-bottles as well as an additional inspection hatch. The sprayskirt is an optional extra. PaddleYak Fusion Classic This was the prototype craft for PaddleYak's award-winning PY Swift Hybrid sit-in/sit-on sea kayak. An ecclectic mix of traditional lines blended with modern ones and incorporating the sit-in/sit-on cockpit concept which resulted in the development of the successful PY Swift and PY Fusion Hybrids. The PY Fusion Classic was an adaptation of the traditional PY Explorer sit-in sea kayak. The sit-in/sit-on cockpit which features self-draining as well as a sprayskirt coaming was first tested on this craft and proved very successful. The traditional lines give the craft an exotic look which appeals to the romantic, but its functional cockpit arrangement and classic lines also makes it a seaworthy craft ready for that big adventure. Riaan Manser chose this craft for his Madagascar Kayak Circumnavigation 2008/9 because of its exotic appeal, its superlative inherent safety qualities and its carrying capacity.
